Everyones lives are busy, and the development of social media, means we communicate much faster as well. Because of this I often hear people saying that they do not have time to cook healthy meals, and that it is easier to heat up a ready meal. With a little planning I can show you how easy it is to cook an easy, healthy family meal from scratch in the same or less time it takes to heat up a ready meal. Ready meals are simple, all you need to do is put the oven on, and let it cook. However, if you add up the time it takes for your oven to heat up, 10-15 minutes, and the cooking time, 20-30 minutes, you could have cooked an easy and healthy family dinner using one of my recipes. Some of my recipes do take longer to cook but they are still easy.
If you do not have much experience with cooking do not worry, my recipes are easy to follow and require no special techniques. A really good way to encourage your children to eat healthy food is to get them helping in the kitchen. However, be realistic. Getting them in the kitchen serveral times a week is probably not going to work, they will see it as a chore and switch off. What I have done in the past is let them help to chose what is for Sunday nights dinner, and encouraged them to help with the preparation. Kids are kids however, and sometimes the best laid plans about helping in the kitchen fall apart. Don’t stress if they kick up a fuss, there is always next time.

Family is a big part of my website, and eating together as a family gives us a feeling of togetherness. I does not matter how your family is made up, it is special and unique to you. Having a meal together, preferably around a table, gives us a chance to catch up with each other before our busy lives take over again. Food is not just fuel, it brings us together for a variety of reasons and celebrations. Easter, Christmas, birthdays, Thanksgiving, the end Ramadan are just a few celebrations where sharing food together is important to us.

Eating healthily means that you get the best out of your body. We are not designed to live on fast or processed food packed full of salt and sugar. A healthy body means we are a lot less likely to suffer from type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure obesity or have a heart attack, stroke or develop cancer. There are exceptions to every rule however. I am sure we all know someone who has not look after themselves, but have lived a long life with not too many complications. Conversely, we know people who have looked after themselves but become unwell. By having a healthy lifestyle we are very much lessening the risk to ourselves of developing lifestyle related illnesses.
