I love porridge and could eat it for every meal of the day. It is a fantastic way to start the day and this easy breakfast porridge really easy to make and comes into the category of cheap family meals. Amazingly, porridge has been around since 1000 BC and at its simplest is just oats and water. The variations from this very simple start are literally endless. Me, I like to make it with half water half milk. Porridge made only with water can be a bit gruel like and not very tasty. What do you like to add to your porridge? A sprinkling of cinnamon, fresh berries, any type of fruit, honey, toasted seeds, nuts or a dash of cream. You decide.
How to cook porridge varies quite a lot. Some porridge aficionados say that it should be cooked overnight super slowly, others like to soak the oats first. I do mine on the hob, and while it cooks I can get on with making packed lunches and any other kitchen jobs. The oats soak up a huge amount of liquid as they cook, so don’t be alarmed with the volume of milk and water that goes in the pan.
I did a bit of porridge research online and came across the Porridge Club which has members such as Bear Grills, Barak Obama and NASA! If it is good enough for them it is good enough for you.
