East Lothian Brussel Sprouts 4

Brussel Sprouts Anyone?

The summer holidays are nearly over, so as the sun was shining we had a trip to East Links Family Park just outside Dunbar in East Lothian. When we turned off the main road we drove by a vast field of brussel sprouts. Brussel sprouts are a bit of a marmite food, love them/hate them and personally I am not a great fan. Schools and hospitals see the need to boil them until they are have lost all nutrient value, are water logged and generally unappealing. If I do eat them I prefer them slightly underdone so the risk of them becoming soggy is reduced to the minimum. I then eat them first so I can enjoy the rest of the meal! Yes, it makes me sound like a child, but adults are just big kids.

If any non sprout lovers have a recipe that involves sprouts and is tasty, I would love to hear about it.

  1. I have to say I do love sprouts, so long as they are cooked exactly as you suggest, over cooking them to be avoided at all costs!! And the fact they are grown locally an added bonus
